There are many things that make RiverMead feel like home, and one of them is the care residents bring to the community itself. The Environmental Action Group is a meaningful example of that spirit in action.
This group has been a key part of helping RiverMead be more thoughtful about sustainability in everyday life. Some of their work is easy to see, and some happen more quietly behind the scenes, but all of it helps make a difference.
One of the group’s biggest areas of focus has been recycling. Members have worked with administration to create recycling guidelines, then helped communicate those guidelines to residents. They have also helped new residents understand how recycling works here, making it easier for everyone to get started and stay informed.
The group has also worked with administration on practical improvements, including
- Helping to identify and purchase bins that support better recycling and waste sorting
- Added Styrofoam recycling bins
- Implemented a plastic bag recycling program rewarded by Trex park benches
- Encouraged the use of returnable containers for takeout meals, helping reduce some of the single-use waste that can build up in landfills over time
- Advocates for electric vehicle shuttles, robot mowers, and electric leaf blowers
Their efforts have also included creative ways to reuse and share. Upcycling ideas and “free stuff” programs have given residents opportunities to pass along useful items rather than throw them away. It is a simple idea, but one that supports both sustainability and community connection.
Beyond these hands-on efforts, the Environmental Action Group also helps keep environmental awareness part of the conversation. From promoting eco-conscious programs to encouraging greener landscaping initiatives, the group continues to look for ways RiverMead can make thoughtful choices that are both practical and positive.
What makes this work especially meaningful is that it grows out of residents who care — about the place they live, about one another, and about the impact small actions can have over time.
At RiverMead, there are dozens of clubs and committees to feed your purpose and passions. Learn more about them by scheduling a tour of RiverMead.
